Being that I watched this series way later than anybody that I know, and on a non- HD stream, as well as never investing money into a TV series before, I was blown away at the craftsmanship, thought, and beauty put into this set. A hard shell slip case houses the DVD booklet, digital copy certificate, and the Blu- Ray housing.~ DVD booklet: This envelope- style, bi- folding booklet houses Season One in its entirety on dual- sided DVD discs. Having the discs in a separate booklet like this makes it easy to bring a copy with you for satellite viewing, bring to a friend’s place, or mail off to get somebody else hooked on this amazing series - all without having to bring along the entire box set. Even though I bought this package for the Blu- Ray discs, I am more excited about this feature than anything else in the packaging.

I didn’t choose the HD quality feeds, but I never saw the series any other way, so I just assumed that the gritty, dark, and nearly- impossible- to- see- scenes were designed specifically with that intention. This all changed once I popped in Disc One of this set. I was floored. I was so taken back by the quality of the film and soundtrack that I immediately chose to start watching the series again from the beginning. It is, without exaggeration, an entirely new experience.

Special Features. There are a plethora of special features in this box set - everything from video profiles of the actors talking about their characters to interactive guides to Westeros. I have only gotten to view a fraction of these so far; however I am impressed with the myriad of content available. Most of if not all of the content is presented in HD quality as well. The only downside to the Special Features is that they were spread throughout different discs, so navigating the features requires one to go back and forth to the Blu- Ray player, switching out discs in a complex and needless series of steps to view the content.

This is the one and only detracting part of my review for this package. All of the special featured could have physically fit onto one disc that exists separately from the series episodes themselves. The story, characters, and so forth. I will however say, as succinctly as possible, that this series will become a new benchmark for how storylines are told.
