Our box office wrap-up for the weekend of July 16, 2017, featuring War for the Planet of the Apes and reigning champ Spider-Man: Homecoming.

War for Planet of Apes Box Office Recap. The summer box office resurgence continued this weekend with the arrival of a phenomenal trilogy finale. Coming in first is War for the Planet of the Apes (read our review), which made $5. That debut is more in line with 2.

There’s an obvious difference in tones between War and Homecoming, but as PG- 1. Even though Peter Parker’s time at the top of the charts was brief, it’s hard to spill any tears for Marvel. Wish Upon to turn the kind of profit distributor Broad Green Pictures might have been hoping for (unless it plays very well internationally). Stateside, interest is low and will stay that way. The #8 film is Pixar’s Cars 3, which brought in $3. That raises the domestic total to $1.
